We know that it’s difficult to start running independently, but we also know how beneficial running can be on so many levels. Following the success of our May-July C25k in 2016 and 2017, we are doing it again for the third time! We have just launched our C25k 2018 programme. Whatever the reasons, with the right support, anyone can achieve their goals. No previous experience is necessary to join in with us. It’s a great way to meet like minded people and make new friends.
We have 7 trained Run Leaders who take the fledgling runners on a structured 10 week programme to get them up and running 5km. We host a group organised session on a Monday evening at 7pm at Manor Leisure Centre Whittlesey, and then we ask our runners to complete 2 further independent runs each week. We give guidance on how to stretch, stay safe and how to keep motivated. We support our novice runners throughout each week via social media. Many ‘Graduates’ from previous years are on hand each Monday to help keep new runners on track and share their experiences and tips.
At the end of the 10 weeks we host a ‘Graduation’ run where our new runners complete their first 5km on the Green Wheel footpath. We reward them with a medal, goodie bag, lots of praise, smiles and sometimes tears. It’s a huge achievement for everyone and family and friends are encouraged to come along and support. We hope our ‘Graduates’ continue running, and we welcome any of them who wish to continue running with TRC, although this is by no means expected. We love our C25k programme and watching our fledgling runners bloom in whatever way they choose is a privilege we all enjoy!
